ok, 2 of the 'females' in my sorority, have just ripped the hell out of each other, they have each lost a Pectorial fin so have put 1 in my 20 ltr Guppy fry tank (took them out first) & the other is in a trap in the sorority tank.
Will the fins regrow??
the one in the 20 ltr is in a bad way, it has a swollen belly aswell as the lost fin, they have been fine all day, i just looked in & they were at each others throats!!!
whats the best med's for them, i will have to wait until tomorrow to get anything as its 10.45pm here now.
the other 4 girls were in a corner hiding, they have no injuries at all.
i guess they are male plakats afterall??
or can females do this to each other too???
:-(

Females can do that to eachother in theory. As could males. Eitherways keeping them seperated certainly wouldn't hurt for now.

I wouldn't recommend any meds at the mo. At the very most stick in some bettafix (or diluted melafix. Google to find out what dilution bettas need). Melafix (or bettafix which is just diluted melafix), is basically a mild antibiotic/fungus treatment so should avoid infection.

But good clean water should be all you need for the girls/boys to grow their fins back.

have you seen any flaring with the suspected male(s)? do they have a beard? if a beard is present, youve got a male in there. females can be fiercely territorial too, as mentioned above. maybe add more plants, hidey holes/decor so they have places to get away from the "brats"
agreed that clean water will be the best remedy for the torn fins. keep an eye out for suspicious areas in the meantime. clearish bits=regrowth, white generally is something more sinister.
best of luck to you and the fish!
cheers

Thats odd, but saying that when i first got my 10 femalesi n their tank 2 of them got really ripped fins but now thats died off and i only see the odd flaring. goodluck with them i agree with loraxchick about the melafix :good:

i have returned the two trouble makers to the shop as when i phoned them they said that they thought there were some males in their female tank but weren't sure!! It is hard to sex them when they are young!!
i have replaced them with 2 definate females, have checked them for their breeding tube!!!
so, peace has returned to the tank... lets hope it stays like that!!!

Aww, it's a shame you had to take them back, but I'm glad that your tank is peacful now, I'm sure it's a load off your mind :)
