My name is Ryan, from Cape Town South Africa. Came back into the hobby in December, previously ran a marine tank in the early 2000s, so brand new on tropical. My son and I have just finished our cycling on a 350l tank, which took about 5 weeks. We are very fortunate to have two fantastic stores in Cape Town both of which specialize in tropical fish. Quite a few shops in South Africa that we can also order from online, but our focus is on supporting brick and mortar local stores as we have already built-up good friendships and get tons of free advice. Hi sorry for the delayed response. The hobby is very popular here and has been for a very long time. We have quite a large number of purely tropical fish shops, in my area alone, three, the smallest carries roughly 15 tanks of stock, with the largest around 40 tanks. All the major brands are available in terms of tanks and hardware - this aspect can be quite pricy though due to our exchange rate. The shop I frequent has been around for about 30 years and is super stocked and extremely busy over weekends. Hope that gives some idea of the scene on our side.
