Hello,

I'm pretty new here, been asking far too many questions over at the beginners forum so a few from over there may be fed up of me already! But everyone has been more than helpful so far.

Complete novice to fishkeeping. Plan is to begin with a 70L Tropical Planted Community Tank

- Current progress for me = Tank ordered and stand up ready and waiting!

Any advice/tips for beginners are very welcome!

Hi and welcome! Questions are what this forum is for. My advice is to make sure you're not going to overstock your tank. The rule is one gallon (I'm sorry I don't know what that is in liters) of water per inch of fish. So make sure you do your homework and know how large your fish will grow. Good luck with the tank. :)

 Hello and Welcome!

If you aren't already aware, I suggest you look into cycling your tank.
Although a fishless cycle is often suggested, there are ways to handle it with fish in the tank. Just do your research and make sure you have tests for the water! I believe this site has a couple lovely threads that can educate you on both. Good luck!

Welcome FingersOfFish!  It's great that you're putting so much research and planning into your new tank!  You'll find it makes everything so much easier and more satisfying.

Planning to stock roughly 10 smallish fish in an 18gal so far, hopefully that's not too extreme! But I plan to add slowly anyway until I get the hang of things!

As for cycling i'm planning on a full fishless cycle - don't like the idea of putting the fish at risk!

Have been researching for about a month already before purchasing the tank. All started from a little booklet i picked up from my LFS - which made fish keeping look a doddle. Never realized how complex everything was until i looked into the idea further but i think it makes it more interesting.

Yea, the problem with LFS is thay they either don't give you all the information or the correct information :/ but this place as really helped me not make a mess of things :)
