Hi everyone ;)

I thought I would introduce myself, as I have quite a few questions!!! I have been reading a lot of the advice on this forum, and I am finding your guides very useful, so immediately I registered :)

I am eager to start a tropical freshwater aquarium, as I have always wanted to keep fish. My friend is unable to keep fish unfortunately, so I have inherited an aquarium that I am now ready to recycle.

Everything is running (and not leaking) but I am yet to cycle the tank. I would like to benefit from your experience and hope to contribute in future. As patience is a virtue, I want to prepare well for my future fish. Ideally I would like to keep clown loaches!!! I've always liked them, but I quite like the dwarf gouramis and cardinal tetras too. I am also very interested in aquarium plants and I would like advice about planting, or fish compatibility, and possibly invertebrates too, shrimp perhaps. Any advice in setting up my new community aquarium is greatly appreciated :)

welcome, rhian. to start off, you just want like 1, 2 or 3 zebra danios, neon tetras, something hardy. later on you can get on to all of the exciting stuff.

thank you :) I like the neon tetras -I'm looking forward to the day I can bring some fish home!!!

Welcome to the forum Rhian.
We here are often not able to respond easily to a new person. What we try to do instead is to build on our own strengths. Each of the MODs has a particular strength when it comes to working with a new tank. My own particular strength is the chemical composition of a cycle. As things go, we each take our turns responding to your questions. The end result is a thread that may wander a bit but is chock full of good advice.
