Good morning everybody,

I came across your site recetly and have already been using the wealth of information available here, so thanks for all the help already.

My wife and I are new to keeping fish and have started a tropical freshwater aquarium.

Its a 125l tank that has some well soaked wood and some live plants.
So far we have in it
2 Dwarf Gourami
2 Red wag tail Platties
3 Mollies
1 Rosy tetra

Unfortunately we have lost a Rosy tetra, it died of Ammonia stress. I know what you are thinking already! Another newbie not understanding the nitrogen cycle and stressing out fish without need, but in my defence I had took a great deal of time and patience reading around the subject and I had pirchased a Hugen mini master test kit.

I monitored the tank religiously and got good stats, too good it appeared. After alot of advice from the aquarium, it transpired that the test kit was a dud! I was very dissappointed and felt bad, but they traded it for a API Master test kit and I am now on top of the levels and confident as I dare to be that the test kit is accurate.

So it has been a steep learning curve, but I guess it made me more determined to fully understand the tank and make sure the fish are looked after well, and hopefully, the advice of the forum can help me avoid such disasters again!

Looking forward to learning more

Drew and Hannah
