Hi, I'm Kyla. I joined fishforums to seek advice from more experienced people than myself. I have 2 tanks currently, a 5g and a 55gallon. My 5 gallon is home to a male Betta, I saved him from awful conditions at our local Wal-Mart. The 55 gallon is home to 3 fancy guppies, I had 2 Angels in with them but the day after I brought them home they sadly passed away. I'm not to sure why, that still baffles me. I will soon be fully stocking my 55 gallon and I'm in hopes that this site and all it's lovely people could help me:)

Welcome to the site.

It's strange for the angels to die but would lead me to say. When did you get the 55gal and when did you first add the angels?

I added the Angels for 4 days after the tank had been running, the man at the pet store sold me this stuff and said to put it in the tank and it would be safe for the fish. Last night I was on here reading and found out the man had no clue what he was taking about, that there's no "insta cycle." Which was very disappointing to find that the man lead me to believe a lie. I won't be returning to that store anymore, that's for sure! My tank has now been set up and running (with guppies in it) for about 2 weeks.

Hi Bettamommy - welcome.

Do you have a test kit for ammonia, etc.?  You'll want to keep an eye on the tank for that.  A 55 with 3 little guppies won't be a big concern, but the 5 g with the betta will.  Bettas are tough little guys and can generally deal with quite deplorable conditions surprisingly well, BUT with that said, clean water is always best.  Ammonia will be building up and is a toxin. You'll want to know when the levels are above zero, and act accordingly (water changes).

I have the kit, and do almost daily water tests. My Betta is currently sick :/ not to sure why though.. probably from ick. I just got rid of it a couple days ago, so he's still in rough shape :( slowly getting better though:)
