My name is mark and I have been dabbling with fish for about the past 6 or so years.

In that time I mostly had goldfish raised from small from the fairground. lol...

About a year ago I decided to get rid of the dirty smelly goldfish and go for some lovely tropicals as they are so much nicer to look at and easier to keep.

We went out and got the following:

3 x Dwarf Gouramis
8 x Neon Tetras
8 x Zebra Danios

Now in hindsight this wasnt the best choices but thats the beauty of hindsight.

Now we have the following left after a death just yesterday:

1 x Dwarf Gourami
6 x Neon Tetras
6 x Zebra Danios
1 x small sucker fish. (Not sure on the name)

I have one real plant in there at the moment which I have just overly pruned (Hindsight again)

See picture below..

The reason I signed up today is to get some advice really. My tank is not looking good and I want to get cracking with it to set something up more permanent! I want lots of plants as that looks great. I think less gravel would be a good idea as well...

The timing unit on my tank has died and the filter is screwed. It keeps cutting out and then working then cutting out over and over...

I am contemplating keeping this tank but getting the timer nipped out of the equation and just adding a switch for the light, then buying a new filter.

Any suggestions would be heartily welcomed! :)

:hi: u could consider getting sand as a substrate, great for plants and fish like it. Sounds like u need to get ur filter sorted out as that could be bad for ur fish. That plant will come back fine. Figure out ur watts per gallon and read some in the planted forums if u want more info on going planted. It's great. Olive my planted tanks and it's healthier for the fish!
