Heaters?

Well honestly I've never heard of one that does... though it would be a good design feature. I am relatively sure that 95% of the common heaters sold do not cool the water. But there might be one that does. That could be useful for heat waves with no A/C.

I'm not expert but no. Basic heaters work in the same way as a iron really. Heat up to desired temp then turn themselves off (thermostat), once the temp drops a bit it comes on again to bring the water back up to temp.

Some hardcore aquarium stores also sell chillers for this purpose, if your heat is consistently too high...

heaters can NEVER cool the water..hence their name

An element turns voltage into heat via a wound coil

I have heard of things you can put into your tank to cool them down but i suppose they are called coolers..Ill try find a link then post it later :good:

I f you need to cool water, put ice cubes in a plastic bag in tank
Okay I'll try that I live in a relatively hot place that can overheat by the roomtempeture so I'll try the ice cube in a bag trick thanks everyone :good:

Right, a chiller, if you've never seen one, is a big box the size of a tower personal computer or so and its basically an air conditioner for a fish tank. :)

So if I go a heater and a chiller would the work well or make themselves work overtime?

Oh no, we're just yakking.. half joking. It would be pretty far fetched to buy a chiller for a freshwater tank. (maybe if money were no object and you lived at the equator and...)

If you only need to drop the water temperature a few degrees, a fan on the water surface works nicely. It can pull the temperature of an aquarium down quite a bit below room temperature. Evaporation boils off the hottest molecules in the water and leaves behind the cooler molecules so the average temperature of the liquid left behind is cooler. It works to cool the water just as well as perspiration can cool your body.
