ive always had my heater vertical as I didnt think you could fully submerge them so ive left it with the top / dial sticking out the water.

but ive read on here that people put them fully submerged - is this wise as I dont know if my heater is a fully submergable one - I got it second hand.

find the make of it or post a picture of it here so we can tell you what it is......should then be an easy search for the specification.

most of them are fully submersible.

theres no markings / product codes on the heater, just a sticker that says 150W aquarium heater.

ill try and get a decent photo of it tonight

i would be amazed if it isnt fully submersible , what would happen if it fell off the side of the tank and it wasnt , fried fish for tea

its just with the max / min level line I thought the top part needed to be out the water. it will probably be ok just me not actually knowing and not wanting to damage it lol

This kind cannot be submerged, it will fill with water if it is not kept above the surface.

You can see the clamp in the picture that is intended to keep the top above the water.

This one is submersible and is shown submerged. Rather than a clamp to hold the top out of the water it has suction cups intended to let you position it under the water.

Yes, I still use lots of the old fashioned kind in my tanks. As long as they work, why would I stop?
