it keeps turning its self on when ive put it down to 21 but the waters 25 deg warm
the heaters only 2 days old is it faulty ??

The measurement on the heaters are not necessarily accurate - if yours is 4'c higher than it should be then just take that into account. What are you using to measure the temp? The other way to look at it is that your thermometer may not be accurate - but I would trust a thermometer over the heater.
If you are using one of those stick on strips I would go get a glass tube one that you submerge in the water.

its the eheim jager 150 watts and i got a juwel vision 180
i tested with a baby bath thermo
and the juwel strip both saying 25 heaters on 21
why :( ??????????
thank you both for your replys

when heaters go off it takes a while for them to cool down so they still carry on heating the water, but it could also have failed, keep an eye on the temp so you dont boil your fish, otherwise its just out

turn it off for 15+ min so it can calibrate

Edit: leave it in the water still

its a pretty normal thing, mist heaters are 2-3 degrees out

i just dont trust its a shame i let the bloke talk me into buy it
i was going to get a juwel he was saying how good they were and were shater proof and that you could turn the heater one then put it in water and it would still be fine

what plug it in out of water? that will burn it out and possible burn you.

buy a digital one, theyre more reliable

the bloke in the lfs pluged it in the first time i took it back yesterday
thing im going to try and take it back tomorrow and see if they will exchange for a diffrent one

heaters dont calibrate themselves
so how do they determine when to turn on/off automatically? And how are they able to achieve that in different volumes of water?
they have a built in thermostat just like a house heating system, it measures the temperature using a strip which expands and will trigger a micro switch which turns it off turns it off. some work differently. the volume doesnt matter, its just on for longer

he didnt seem to wanna be helpful hes got my money and want to keep it
i cant see what was wrong to sort me out another one and send my one back to the makers
