Heater Reading Lower Than Water Temp

well i had the same problem as the OP and searched thru archived posts for solutions and found a thread that suggested turning it off for 15min. I thought "damn I bet mine can't self calibrate" but I went and tried it. While waiting the 15min i thought it wouldnt hurt to read the instructions so i did. No need to guess what they said. My heater works perfect now.

What does the OP have to lose with his off for 15min? Theyre never permanently on anyway.

And glass shattering in a temperature related way, only happens if hot glass is cooled rapidly.
