Hey all, been a while since I posted on this site. Been busy, and All has been well with my fish... Until today.

Well, my fish are fine, but for Christmas I put together a 10 gallon tank for my mom :) She has 6 Neon Tetras, 1 male guppy (5 died in my tank, and this one lives forever!!), and an Apple Snail.
Today, I went to go feed my mom's fish, since she is away for the weekend. I noticed the guppy was hungry, but the tetras didn't seem to care that there was food around. They were all huddled in the back corner, kind of laying on the gravel. I tossed some more food in, and nothing... I looked at the tetras, and 2 had the red colour fading from them (1 of which had almost ZERO red)... I knew something was up, so I checked the temp of the water. The water was at 37 Celcius YES!!! THIRTY-SEVEN!!!!!!! I set it for 26, but I guess the heater shorted somewhere and was permanently on. I pulled it out ASAP, and felt it. I could barely touch it. I threw it in the garbage! =P I immediately went upstairs and mixed some water with ice (and of course, de-chlorinator) and I slowly added it to the water. I managed to drop the temp to about 32 C. But the fish still seem odd. I let the water temp cool down with no heater for a few hours, while I went out. I checked up on them and they are all still alive, but the one has no colour still, and they are all laying on the rocks (Mind you, their light has been off for about 2 hours now).

Will they recover? Or are they doomed :( ? 4 of the 6 tetras ate, and the guppy was all over the food. I kept adding food every 10-15 until I saw that all of them had something to eat at least (tho the really faded tetra only ate 1-3 flakes).

Thanks for the help. Really appreciate the time taken to read my post :)

Yes... 37 deg C is way out the comfort zone for all fish and borders on the fatal zone for most..... Hopefully you have subsequently done a decent water change as the persistant (force" feeding was potentially as dangerous as the high temps......

A heater is one of those items where you just don't get the cheapies.... the price basically determines the quality (I have a recent topic on the subject) where I paid as much as 3 times the price for equivalent rated heater, but gives me peace of mind.

If your cooling down was rapid, (adding ice).... just watch the fish for the next couple of days for signs of ich...... (& obviously, you have replaced the heater)????
