Heater Help Needed

Hi, Im new

Had a tank set up for about a month or so. Its a 2ft tank with a 50 w stick heater and it did have a fluvel 1 filter in. Ive just changed the filter for the next size up (the one that blows bubbles).
The problem Im having is my temp is not very steady! It can go from 24 - 29 over the course of a day which I cant see being good! I have the heater set for 28 and the digital thermometer is showing 28.9!
Im not sure if its the new filter but the temp seems to be sticking quite high at the minute. My house can be quite cold so Im wondering if thats whats effecting the temp so much. Does anyone have any heating recommendations? I was thinking of getting a 100w heater and was wondering if the £8/10 ones on ebay were any good (stick ones) or is there an alternative kind of heater that would be better?

What is the volume of the tank, a Decent 25W or another 50W is going to be much more suitable than a 100W

Sounds like the heater is overheating so buying another cheap heater will likely lead to the same problem. You'd be better off investing in a quality heater

If your house is cold you may need to get a bigger wattage heater, your new filter maybe circulating the water better so it will cool more quickly.

take a look at rena smart heaters . since i changed to them my tank temperature is very stable . they are very acurate too , plus they are dam near unbreakable they arent made of glass and dont get hot enough to the touch to cause your fish heater burn inf they touch them . i highly reccomend them .

Ill look at those rena ones. I have no idea how much it holds just that its 2 ft across. Just realised I put my new filter in and didnt leave any dirty sponge in it for the bacteria! Ive washed the old one under the tap as well

agreed. you might be able to find a cheap one on amazon, but im not sure if you live in UK, and im not sure if they have amazon in UK! a loose rule of thumb is 1 watt per liter.
