Hi, Will have my new 470L tank up and running in the next few days, i need some advice to buy a decent heater which will easily heat this capacity tank. At the moment on my 220L tank i am using an external heater Hydro Eth-300 but that is being sold with the old tank so need your expertise to help me along. I have looked at a Underworld aquarium visitherm 400W heater and a Hydor theo 400W but if you folks know a better quality heater please let me know.....Thanks Colin

Sorry for answering my own post but after reading up about the two 400W heaters i mentioned i realise they are both too low Wattage for my tank. Due to shortage of electrical sockets i really only want 1 heater so have been looking at an Odyssea 500w Heater which should be ok for my tank. The problem is i have never heard of Odyssea and am always a bit cautious about buying a make i have never heard of.

I would go for two or even three heaters personally. That way if one packs up or goes mad it won't have the same devastating effect on the tank inhabitants. Can you not use an extension plug?

+1 for multiple heaters, plus on a tank that size and only 1 heater you'll need good circulation to ensure a reasonably even heat distribution and it will be working harder than multiple heaters would.

2 (or 3 for a tank that size) is the way forward.

Cheers

i normally go with 2 x 200w on a tank that size....if its kept in a very cool place then go with 2 x 300w, but its normally not nessessary
