Listen to this story and weep with me. When i first set up a saltwater tank in a 55 gallon, I cycled the tank with domino damsels and eventually added a few pounds of live rock. We bought a 5 inch melichtys niger (sp) and he did really well, eating from our hand and never killed the damsels. We had him for about a year and added a melichtys ringens. I feared he would be killed by the niger, but a few spats and they got along, though the niger was dominant. They both left the damsels alone and exhibited beautiful colors, though they were outgrowing the tank. (We were planning on buying a 110 or 120). One day my dad came in from mowing the lawn and had fed them some krill. My stupid dad had gasoline on his hands and both our triggers died within 48 hours. Needless to say, I got real bummed and got out of the hobby for a year. Anyone else feel my pain by losing a favorite fish?

a sad story indeed, I take it your getting back into the hoby now, what you may want to do is keep a large barrel or garbage bin on hand and filled with premixed salt water, that way you can do an emergency water change in no time flat and prevent such needless carnage, also, You may consider posting a notice to remind people to have clean lotion and soap free hands before putting there hands in the water, personally I wouldnt be handfeeding a fish with such a powerful beak, I enjoy having 5 fingers on each hand.

Sadly this hobby can really kick you when you are down. I know just what you went through as i have also lost fish that are very dear to me. Ifi hadnt spent so much time, sweat blood and tears in this hobby i would have probably given up by now. :*)

Sorry...it's tough. I know from everyone's experience here as well as my own newfound experiences, that this is labor intensive labor of love. I try to be so careful when going near my tank...don't use sprays or chemicals...I wash my arms thoroughly with FW. On the one hand, they seem pretty resilient...on the other, stupid little things seem to create chaos. If all of you are like me, there seems to be at least 5 minutes of work you can do on these tanks everyday. I've read Navarre has had some tough losses. Hang in there...maybe you can save up and replace the ones that you lost. Good luck. SH

Yes, these are not marines but all our discus died in about 1 and a half months 'cos one disease passed on to the rest although we had a hospital tank.
And that made us get rid of two tanks.

Its sad.
Francis.

i no its about goldfish
but this is my story

i had 3 goldfish one was the biggest i ever seen a goldfish (7 years old) and the other 2 were 2-3 years old. However the tank i had was way 2 small for 3 fish so i got a 18g for them. i thought i could get 2 small fish to go with them.So i did. they seemed fine together.
WRONG
slowly something went wrong i looked carefully at one of my goldfish and he didt look rite.next few days they all had it. PANIC. the three i put back in its old tank. every day i would take about 50% of water out.. I look closely and they colour faded, they neva swam around, didt eat ,AND MOST OF ALL THEM HAD THERE FINS ROTTING :(

i knew they were goin to die, day by day one would die

IT WAS SOO BAD PAINFULL TO WATCH :-(
