Hi - thanks for reading this.
Please reply if you have any experience of using this product.

I am on Day1 of a 4 day course to try to treat one Zebra Danio with a thing which looks like half a translucent ping-pong ball on his lower lip which has remained unchanged for 3 weeks and one male guppy with a teeny bit of white cotton wooly fluff on one pectoral.
Am treating the whole community in case there's anything nasty about.

Haven't used Protozin before but have used Octozin.
Increased the agitation of water from early morning to up O2 levels.
Protozin turns out to be bright turquoise - administered at 3pm today and turned the tank water deep blue - fine, if a bit scary!

so what's the problem?

Fish now seem a bit dopey
and the water, although no longer blue, is really milky
Is this normal?
are the fish OK?

As http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/protozin.htmthe med is for parasites and at the present i'm not convinced yet it is a parasite. Can you load a pic up.

Does it look like any of these pics.

Another one.

Columnaris (a.k.a. Mouth Fungus)

Symptoms:

An infected fish will have off-white to gray cotton-like patches on the head, fins, gills, body and particularly the mouth. In time, these areas will develop into open sores. Gill swelling may occur, gill filaments may stick together and excessive mucus may develop in the gill area. Rapid breathing can be seen. Fins may deteriorate to the point of leaving the fin rays bare. Muscles may be inflamed and capillaries may rupture. Fish, particularly livebearers, may exhibit "shimmying". Infection may be acute (killing an infected fish within hours), or chronic (lingering for several days before eventually killing the fish). As with most diseases, not all symptoms need be present.

Cause:

The bacterium Flexibacter columnaris.

Treatment:

Ensure that your water conditions (e.g., Ammonia, Nitrite, pH, Nitrate levels, and water temp.) are within their proper ranges. If not, perform a water change and/or treat the water accordingly. Recommended medications include: Furanace, Fungus Eliminator, Fungus Cure, Furacyn, Furan-2, Triple Sulfa, E.M. Tablets, Tetracycline, or Potassium Permanganate. Medicated foods are also recommended. Columnaris can be highly infectious and may quickly kill all aquarium inhabitants; therefore, early treatment is essential. All fish, including those not yet showing visible symptoms, as well as the aquarium they inhabit should be treated.

um
Have you used Protozin?
just that it is for Whitespot, fungus, velvet etc

I really don't want diagnosis help
I really want help from someone who has used this med about the way the med behaves and the way the fish are affected
Thanks Wilder, But you are not helping. It is just the one round neat ball on the lip and not mouth fungus. probably a growth but I thought I'd use a strong(waterlife) potion against fungus as the guppy has just started with a tiny speck and see if it did anything for the Danio. Don't have a camera, I'm afraid.

and no-one else is saying anything

Please?
pretty please???

Well i have used it, it's fine.

yup yup yup
Had some good advice from Wilder and read lots that she has given others. I am very grateful for the time spent

But
I asked a very specific question
Has anyone used Protozin from Waterlife in their community tank and did it turn the water blue and then milky after about 7 hours and were the fish kinda dopey?

Please someone out there - help me?

Telling me you have used it and it was fine really doesn't help.

I don't know whether to water change now
discontinue using the med and get the charcoal back in quick
or just say
good good - all going to plan and go to bed

Please Help

All i wanted to find out is if you new what you was treating the tank for so i could help if it was any good, it might help the med you want to know about with the fin fungus, but i doubt it will be much good on the mouth area which i was trying to concentrate on, as it sounds bad and you sometimes need two meds to give it a boost start.

hi
ive used protozin for ich with a good result it did turn the water a pale blue colour for a couple of hours but i didnt get the milky type water your describing at all & neither did any of our fish show any signs of being dopey/sleepy & ive used protozin on 2 different occasions.
maybe its reacted with something else in your water but i have no idea what.
i would do a 25% water change & stick some carbon media in the filter to try & get rid of the stuff- it doesnt seem to be right. id probably also do daily small (10% or so) water changes as well.
have you checked your dose, expiry date of the protozin etc.........dont want to state the obvious but just checking. im sorry i dont know what the problem is exactly but as ive said i havent experienced the 'milky' water at all with protozin.
good luck

Thank you sooo much for your answer millym
Thank you for reading my post and answering the question I was asking - really helpful answer with a really clear plan to follow. I am very grateful - now I don't feel on my own with the problem.
I have a slightly cloudy tank this morning but everyone looks fine - all normal behaviour.
The Protozin was brand new from Maidenhead Aquatics in Eastleigh - I am really lucky to have them as my lfs for stock and advice (- and AquaJardin too).
I used half dose as I have a clown plec and a borneo sucker in there
Thing is - if there is fungus I want rid of it and I want to complete the course.
Spent a restless night over it expecting to come down to a tank full of dead fish this am.

what else in the water might it have reacted to it? I'm sure I don't know.
My tank is heavily planted and I use Aqua plus to decontaminate my water and Cycle to pump up the volume in my bacteria.
My plants get Nutrafin Plant gro once a week and a I've just started with a spot of Flourish excel.
else it's a mystery.
I am still really torn btn using your scheme millym, to get rid
and continuing the course.

I hate meds!!

Wilder?
I'm sorry - but I think you still don't get what I'm asking.

You are trying to help me diagnose a problem and choose a treatment

What I am asking in this thread is what did Protozin do in anyone's tank when they used it.
You used it you say?
When you used it ,did it turn the water milky or cloudy or hazy and did your fish seem dopey or subdued?
If you could tell me that, it would be really a great help
Thanks
:)

hi
if everything seems ok this morning id probably continue - as you say completing the course if usually the best thing to do. but when you add your next dose i would keep a very close eye on everything & if you have another problem i would do the water changes etc just to be on the safe side.
keep us updated.

Thanks for that Millym - just about talked myself around to that plan but having you second it gives me more confidence.
today's dose due at 3pm so I will let you all know what gives!

well, the med is in and the water is a translucent sort of turquoise.
Fish are all very perky so far
will check in again after the rugby - set is nxt to tank so I can watch both
