I've been keeping fish for a few years now and recently a friend asked me to help them start a tank which I was more than happy to do. If they would have asked me the same question a few years ago I wouldn't have been so positive due to me thinking that they wouldn't have given the effort needed to be successful.

What is your experience?

2 mates of mine have had one of my tanks and now I have it back as they never stuck with it

I have but i regret it as they ended up keeping 10 goldfish in a 60l biorb and i dont see them anymore. (not because of that though! lol)

well ive convinced 2 of my sisters who both have 2 fish tanks each because of me, then three of there friends, about 6people at my wifes work have now brought tanks and ive helped or am helping to set up, and now found another 2 people who have tanks empty and have asked for my help to set them up, another friend i used to work with gave me a tank then a month ago he came by fell in love with my tank and i have to help him set up another tank,,,,i think i should start charging for my time

My friend always liked my tank, then when she was off work she bought her own tank, impatiently waited while it cycled and now loves it, and her fish.

The good thing :- Someone to share hobby with when other half is driven to distraction by fish/tank talk! :good:

The bad thing:- shes not very good (yet) at cleaning it out properly so another tank for me to maintain!

Yes, yes, and yes. His wife won't speak to me any more...
That reminds me of convincing my friend that we should start having band practice at his place. :band:

I got my girlfriend into fish keeping since we started dating, three years ago. The only regret I have is that we have similar interests in fish, which means, there had better be two in the store or online, lol. But, she did get me into this forum which has helped me tremendously in my fishkeeping.

I got my boyfriend into fishkeeping and would never regret it. He's my "partner in crime" now, and our apartment is full of tanks. He's even decided to get his master's degree in fish management, so I guess it worked!

We gave one of our bettas to our next door neighbors, and the husband is already talking about setting up a tank for bumblebee gobies (he loves mine).

My girlfriend chose to take the biology/ichthyology route after I got her into fish keeping. Some how I got stuck in political science.

Yes, yes, and yes.

I've got several friends into fishkeeping after seeing some of my tanks (the biorbs especially). Most of them thorooughly enjoy it and have stocked their tanks responsibly.

One bought one of my biorbs from me and then totally ignored my advice to questions asked, and overstocked it with all the wrong types of fish and in such alarming numbers. I won't have much to do with their problems now as they want me to help them out of their self-induced mess :(
