Have To Give My Guppies Away...

My original two male guppies where fine with each other, never bothered each other at all. There was a female, but I gave her away because of the too many babies. Then I added another male guppy, a Dragonhead Guppy, and at first I thought it was playing, but now I see its full on aggression. My red guppy and the dragonhead guppy are constantly fighting or chasing each other, and now the red one is so stressed he's started throwing himself at plants...I'm going to have to give them away, I can't deal with all their aggression, its even stressing out the other fish. Why would male guppies be so aggressive? Any ideas?

well whatever the cause is its shame i have to give them away, they're very handsome, but the stress on other fish is too much and stress leads to illnesses like ich and i can't go through that again *shudders*

but i guess that gives me room for more fish i guess

Well they have a lot of pent up energy that would normally be spent chasing the females and competing for top spot among the males. With no females around they'll fight amongst themselves more often than they would with females around.

well, as of now, they are beating the #105### out of each other...anything else i can do besides giving them to the LFS?

If you can't seperate them, then no, not really. Plenty of places to hide maybe, but then I always find that male guppies prefer to face up to each other than swim away!

I shouldn't think they'll do much physical harm to each other, it's stressful for them and not very enjoyable to watch but there isn't much you can do about it.

sigh....you are right, theres plenty of hiding spaces but they prefer to duke it out...aww there so beautiful ...such a shame, but they're stressing out everything! my gouramis are tamer than this but...on the bright side (kinda) maybe i can finally get some praecox rainbows...maybe

Praecox, and other rainbows, do like a long tank for swimming room. So it's not that your stocking doesn't 'allow' them, more the dimensions of the tank make it unsuitable for them.

But it is your tank, you can add them if you want to.

well, im not exactly going to add a fish with energy to a small tank, that's not nice Plus they'll be really spontaneous and obnoxious if its too small a tank, this will most likely bother my gouramis...It's bad enough i have my old, old, indestructable glofish Mr.Fishy living out his golden years in there. Seriously, this fish cannot be killed. Spent most of his life in petsmart, then a small, uncycled, unheated, unclean, 2.5 gallon tank for 2 years...survived an ich epidemic and ammonia poisoning..those were dark days...sheesh...maybe another tetra?

But i have to admit, they are gorgeous fish and if i were an uneducated fish keeper i'd probs buy like, 15 and throw them in there

3 Male Guppies,4 Pink Jewel Tetras, 2 Sparkling Gourami, 1 Oto, 2 Kuhli Loaches, 5 Cherry Shrimp, 2 Amano Shrimp, 1 Red Crystal Shrimp

Is this up to date, apart from planning to remove the guppies?

I don't think you should add another species of tetra, or any schooling fish - it'd be better to have one larger school of one species, ie the pink jewels. Having never heard of them, I've just looked them up and they get fairly chunky compared to your average neon, for example, so I'd say 8-10 of those would be good. (Edit: are these rosy tetras, does anyone know? They look similar.)

The one oto would appreciate company as they are shoaling fish - add at least another one if you can.

The kuhlis also like company, maybe add a third if you can.

Have you considered Endlers? They're similar to guppies but much smaller and when I had some they were far less hostile to each other. I had 6-8 males and while not strictly schooling fish, going off to do their own thing, they did look good as a group.

20 gallons. Did consider giving him away, but then i realized, that if a dumb person like me can shove a fish into a 2.5, then any dumb-dumb can waltz into that LFS and take him to the same thing. So i figured he can retire in my tank.
Man, i sure wish i had a bigger tank, so i could get me some praecox....darn

Do you only have one tank? I really want a larger tank too. I want cichlids (which I angrily(in my head) found out was pronounced sicklids. I was saying chicklids.) and oscars, but not a big enough tank. I do for some cichlids but I like my mix of fish.
