Ugh, so Sunday night, babies in bed = cleaning tanks task.

Fail 1:

I buy in RO water, one of which I new I had treated with tropic Marin, and the other hadn't been, and had also been bought from somewhere different than our usual supplier.
I am heavily pregnant so hubby lifts one 25 litre container onto Rayburn wrapped in towels to warm slightly.

We get confused as to which one has been treated, and I think by testing the ph will tell me - no, utter confusion, they both read the same. Here's me thinking one of the things I'm buffering is the ph! :/ UNLESS new water from different place had already buffered it?? Although they never said.

Anyhow just to make sure all is well I decide to use half from each 25 litre container when refilling my tank, so fingers crossed!

Fail 2:

Major fail in my eyes!!

Decided to remove stones to give them a good scrub, hubby does this so I can get on with the gardening in my tank.

Returns 10 -15 mins later after giving them a good scrub and rinse in HOT water, and hands bucket to me so I can remodel the look.

I was just mentioning how warm they were and that I s going to adjust the thermometer when getting near the bottom of the bucket I see my hillstream loach!!!!! WTH??

Got all jittery and yelled at hubby to catch him - he was shuffling around in the water at the bottom of the bucket.

We got him back in and he swam for cover, I am taking some solace that they sometimes live in dried up puddles etc when streams run short of water.
We both feel awful about it, you would think if you picked up a rock it was on it would swim off not cling on surely?

He must have come off in the bucket and stayed there whilst husband was cleaning the other rocks, but OMG :( just hope he will be ok!

He will be fine I am sure :p you just discovered my trick for catching the suckers at work ;) i lower the bag and carefully life a rock then lift it out the water fast and give it a gentle shake over the bag so he drop in! kinder than accidentally squishing them on glass!

I had a BN fall out of wood on my draining board and he was there 24 hours!! in the tiny bit of water between runners. Cant believe it, he was dried out but when i put him in water, he was alive and recovered!

Good thinking on the RO, if minerals had been added to RO, it might not have mixed completely enough for readings to be correct when you tested it :)

Write "R.O" on one barrel and "R.O + Mins" on the other and make sure minerals go in the same one each time you ask for them :) then you always know which barrel it is! :p

Jeez oh! Nightmare material!

I've done that with a small pleco before. Took out a piece of bogwood, checked it too, to make sure is wasn't there. Cleaned it, leaving it out the water for about 20 mins. Then my Mrs said "there's something moving on that wood". Sure enough. I am a plonker sometimes. It survived though.

Fingers crossed for your we loach.

I think hubby may need to take more responsiblity on cleaning the tanks as you said you are heavily pregnant but if you are like me where i still care for my fish even though i have a fever then why dont you have a close eye on him to make sure i doenst make any mistakes while doing a water change ;)

Ooh this is making me feel better! I guess it is easily done :(

Argh what a nightmare though hey? I have been so jittery since! Doh!!

Thanks MBOU, I have just spotted him swimming about so fingers crossed! And good idea on the mineral! Too many cooks I guess :/

Have had that happend quite a few times with my bristle nose and my clown loaches.. they hide in everything. Thats why i have flat stone to create the caves they like and i check each and every one now when i pull them out just to be sure i dont have a pleco stuck to it!!! Hope your little guy survives! I'm sure he will though
