Have Got An Issue On My Hands, Need Help.

Ive got a 55 gallon planted aquarium.
Wanted to set it up as a planted tropical community tank.

Looked into Rams and was told many of them are compatible and are peaceful tropical community fish.

15 fish missing including neon tetras, glow light tetras and 1 beautiful betta.
Biggest fish are 3 Bolivian rams.

Anyone had problems with these fish?



Havent replaced the neons, not planning on it either until i can sort out this problem.


Wanting to get 3 Angels for my center piece fish also.
All help is greatly appreciated.

15 fish missing, what filter are you running? sometimes fish can get sucked into filters which could explain the missing noens and glowlights but really not sure about the betta and the rams I would have thought they would be a bit to large for that. Do you have a lid on the tank? I take it you have searched amongst the plants.

I would look in the filter and around the tank. Do you have a dog or a cat?

No fish in either filters and no fish outside of aquarium.
This incident happened awhile back, i searched the aquarium and everything around it about a week ago when i found this stuff out.


We do have cats and dogs but all show no attention to the aquarium.
The top of the aquarium is covered, there are 2 2"x4" openings on either corner in the back and that is it.

That would be enough for them to jump out but its hard to believe 15 fish would jump out. If they did jump out the cats would have ate them dogs to for that matter.

Yeah my fish jumped out from a 2cm x 5cm gap where the wires would be but there are 2 places I can put wires through and I only used one side. So I wouldn't be surprised if they did jump out and the cat or may even be dog ate them. My cat shows interest at them but he knows he can't get to them. However, once they are out of the water, he can & he will

I also find it hard to believe 15 fish would just jump out.

i would say your bolivian rams ate them. They get big and aggressive, not like the smaller german butterfly rams.

my dog ate my tire track eel 10 years back and when i puled it out of her mouth i thought it was a dog treat my mom gave her

still maybe one farted and they all evacuated to the nearest opening? hard to beleave 15 fish jumped out 2 holes without you noticing either a very pleased cat/dog or fish on the floor.

Im telling you guys, i visit the tank daily. There were zero fish found outside of the aquarium.

I dont agree ive always had a pair of bolivans and have not lost a fish, they dont get big, and they arnt agressive unless they are breeding in which case they will protect their eggs from other fish eating them. di

have you tested your water, the fish may have died and then eaten by the other fish, fish do clean up the tank, i lost an angel the other day the first i noticed was an half eaten carcass in the tank and one fish missing two hours later the fish has totally gone, so fish will eat other fish once dead, they wouldnt have killed them, bolivans are very calm and dont bother other fish, i remember one of mine laid eggs and they did chase other fish away, still didnt halm any other fish though.

oh forgot to say angels and fine with rams, now they will eat neons and smaller fish once they get big enough, angels will eat anything they can fit in their mouths, ive seen them eat guppies whole. di

Maybe you got a bad batch of neons and the rams decided it was lunch... As to the betta, perhaps the neons got to him first? I've seen them tear right through a betta before.

Alright still unsure of what happened to the neons, but no more neons.

What does everything think of the mix of Bolivian ram, angel and a betta?

if you raise a baby angel with smallfish it greatly decreases the risk of them eating them since the angels have grown up around small fish. but your not gettin more neons guess you should just get your angels,dont know bout the betta tbh. then a few 2.5" ditheres and some cories..... thatd look great and you wont get babys if you didit want any.
