The credit crunch has bitten me personally very hard. My hours have been cut, and had the car reposessed. Fish keeping has become somewhat of a luxury at the minute,. Has the credit crunch affected how much you spend on the hobby?

yep. :(

both my reptile keeping and fish keeping.

had to put plans for new snakes on hold

it's only just hit, really... i can no longer go to the pet shop and buy a plant if i feel like it, cause i cant even afford that £1.20. :(

great to know I'm not the only one.!

its bad over here too. im currently unemployed, my other half works full time but to feed a family of five, its leaving things very grim looking. theres no work out here. And because im english and not fully divorced from my ex yet, we are not entitled to any benefits or financial help for the children. its awful. the only way we can afford luxuries like new plants/fish/ornaments etc is by buying them at local flea markets and garage sales.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think thats a great way of beating the crunch by buying ornaments second hand

I'm not affected here at the moment - business as usual.

Although there's a possibility of my job being made redundant in a few months (company restructure, rather than anything to do with the economy), which leaves me in the position of waiting and hoping it all works out OK, or taking the plunge now and looking for a new job in a declining economy. :(

Interesting times ahead, methinks....

Started a marine tank just before all this really kicked in. The Electricity bill has just landed on the mat... What a shock that was. Summer bills are now as high winter ones.
Aw well life must go on.

aw gee thanks! from tomorrow things might be better! had a job interview on sunday and they said they'd let me know wednesday if i had the job. i really do hope i get it! also my partner makes a lot of things at work so we save some money on those, at the moment he's making a big outdoor pond type tank so we can get some steur (not sure what they are in english, sturgeon perhaps? they look like long sharks!) these are them http://images.google.be/images?hl=en&q=steur&gbv=2

Im 16 going on 17, In debt (only 30£) but not a good start in the credit world. Hopefully when I start full time work in a few weeks (after resitting english) I will have a better credit rating ;)

Wish me luck

Working in the insolvency profession, I am not too detrimentally effected by the credit crunch, and find myself with a different view of economics to most (for me, recession = loads of work, loads of overtime and loads more money).

The main thing that has caned my fishkeeping has been taking up SCUBA diving. Within just over a year we have purchased:

6 reg sets
4 gauges
2 stab jackets
1 wing
6 cylinders
2 drysuits
3 undersuits
5 wetsuits
2 computers
3 DSMB (2 with crack bottles)
2 reels
knives, clips, spools, hoods, gloves, masks, fins, cargo pouches, bags and sundries like mouthpieces

And a new car to cart all the gear around in.

And some people moan about the cost of fishkeeping... :D

not too bad for fishkeeping, got my annual statement through from some investments though and was quite shocked.... lost a fair bit of money over the last year.

not desperatley fussed though, the money was gonna go towards our next house, house prices have fallen so it's all relative. looking at the economy though a lot of the problems are caused by media panic, everyone stops buying things, everyone panics, prices for houses etc all fall, that coupled with the rising price of petrol makes this look like it's much worse than it actually is. everything should start to stabilise toward the end of 08 apparently.

I haven't felt it yet, but I'm only 18. I know it's coming, since I start collage in the fall. I plan on upgrading my 55gal and changing most of the stock this summer. Then I'm going to be done and keep my fish related spending to a minimum for a couple years.

It hasent bothered me too much, but i get £30 from college and i dont have a job yet.
It does get hard at times but im wanting more and more stuff.

fish keeping on the whole isnt really much of an issue i get all my stuff from a pet wholesaler so shop brought in prices so i save a huge amount anyways but other things as in petrol and even food shopping ive noticed price rises
im not overly affected but either way still more money 2 spend even if ppl have it 2 spend.
