Hi,

I bought a C02 kit recently and it has been going since early last week (about monday i think).

The kit is the Nutrafin set up with the bubble diffuser in the tank.
My tank is 15 gallons and has no fish in yet because i put some live plants in when the fishless cycling had finished and started the C02 when i added the plants. I am thinking of adding more plants soon and then soon buying a few fish.
However since about Wednesday a surface film has appeared even though i have the basic filter, heater and light's on.
The C02 machine is still working fine but seems to be going more rapidly now than it was for the first few days. Maybe the hot weather is speeding up the fermentation process and creating too much C02 for my tank? i don't have many plants in there.

Has the C02 caused this surface film? Any advice please?
cheers!

i really dont think its possible to overdose on the nutrafin systems, i ran 2 and if i didnt murder anything you wont.
did you use the mix that came with the system? i have never used it myself i used a diy mix (sugar yeast and water) it mmaybe this that is causing it, have you been doing a fishless cycle? (yes sorry isee you have) maybe its the food/ammonia that has caused this.
i found that my bubbles got faster but this usually took a matter of hours rather than days, are they steady now? ( but then i used diff mix) do you have the cannister on top of the tank where the lights are? this with the warmer weather could have caused the fermentaion rate to be faster but i seriously doubt that you will have poisoned your tank

shelagh xxxx

ps, have a read of this, http://www.fishforums.net/content/Plants-a...sic-User-Guide/ it may save you some grief in the future, and when restarting the system after a change of mix,my advice would be to allow it to run in a bucket of water for a few hours so not to make a mess in the tank should it leak

a more expereinced fishkeeper will confirm/disagree with what i have said tho

i had that kit i just used sugar over the first line then some warmish water to the 2nd then 1/2 to a teaspoon full of yeast then stir it some and volia, and when you mean surface film is it just on top of the water or?

maybe do a couple of water changes and see it its still happening.

I know what you are talking about with the surface scum. IDK what causes it, but I don't think it is the CO2. But I do know most swords and platys will keep it under control.

Simple way to know if your CO2 is too high, get a drop checker.
