This was a good 10 years ago, We had a 10gal tank that was kind of old, at least 10-15 years old. I decided to bring it out of storage room, brought a new underground filter, new pumps, decorations, and filled it up with water. The next night, I woke up to a large 'crack' noise and water dripping. I look at the tank and see the water leveling dropping. It took maybe a minute or two for the entire tank to empty, onto a power strip that was underneath the tank. Thankfully nothing bad happened with the power strip. For some reason, the bottom of the tank decided to give out, and two cracks, 1 going the entire length, and the other going the entire width. The only thing that I can think of it was on one of the cast-iron stands that doesn't have support in the middle, just around the sides. But we used that stand for years with no problem.

when a crack happions. The water pressure builds up and the water trys to find a way out. Making the crack bigger and eventually spreads out. After the cracks give away the thing shatter's

something like that anyway  :good:

MMMMMMMM I think its about time I bought a new 2ft tank then. I have one thats been in use for 18 years, on a cast iron stand with no support for the base, well appart from the polystyrene it sits on too.

Have I just hexed my own tank?

any way, my tank has been making like, creaky noises sometimes when i pass it, but the only time water went out of it was when my spiky catfish swam near my hand and freaked me out. lol.

but is this a big warnig sign? if i try to find the soruce of the sound it sounds loudet near the filter.

thanks for making me worry!

I was hearing the same thing and it was making me really paranoid. I finally noticed that the heater would make a "click" sound when it turned on/off....also I think it may be the wooden stand and or floors contracting with the weather like windows do.
