Has Anyone Used Pettex Dorset Pea Gravel?

Hi,

Today I have just changed from sand back to gravel as my eheim filter was blowing the sand everywhere, I'd tried making spraybar holes larger etc but it made no difference.

Anyway, I got 3 bags of unipac nordic style gravel, and it looked fine in the bag. I washed it throughly and put it in the tank, re-filled tank and guess what, I dont like it Once its been washed it looks too light in the tank, far too many white pieces.

Anyway, I've found places sell pettex dorset pea gravel which looks a lot darker and more natural which is what I want, I dont like coloured or black gravels, I want a natural look.

I ideally want this look Click this link and go to the bottom of the 1st page, zoepops 1st picture before she changed it to sand is the colour gravel I want as I think it looks better with live plants.

Anyway, does anyone have this dorset pea gravel in their tank and does it look like the one in zoepops tank?

Yes, I have used the Pettex dorset pea gravel and it is dark, just like in the photo you directed us to. The other advantage is that it is much smoother than most other gravels out there, and therefore less likely to damage fishes mouths/barbels.

Dorset pea gravel will give you the look you require
but i have never used the make you are on about
the stuff i used to get was from the LFS i used
to get a 15 kilos for about £7.50 but i am going
back a bit if you look a bout you can get a finer
grade when you mix the together it looks good bit
i used to mix sharp sand with it and the effect is
even more natural{sharp sand is washed river sand
not the yellow builders sand }when all three are mixed
it looks awesome and with sharp sand it sort of works with
plants as well but that's only my opinion

Thanks for your replies guys. I decided to order some pettex roman Lakeland gravel which is essentially dark with a good mix of colours. Wasn't as cheap as the pea gravel tho! Lol

try getting some finer grade and some sharp sand and mix it looks great
just like river bottom
