Hi I have a basic question If I used a coral based sand substrate what would happen?
PH would go down correct?
Plus another quickie Algae and moss does that ruin porus dead coral?

Crushed coral or sand etc rises PH not lowers it. Take my marine tank, I have marine sand in there and it pushes my PH to around 8.4 and keeps it there.

Coral sand is also too sharp for most freshwater fish; anything that tends to sift through the substrate , like goldies do, will have their gills irritated by it.

Even fish that like hard, alkaline water, like rift valley cichlids, don't normally have a straight coral sand substrate for that reason.

Algae and moss will damage dead coral, yes; the roots will eventually break in apart; it will also dissolve gradually.
