I need to change my lifeglo's before much longer and I'm currently looking at alternatives. These seem cheap enough but has anyone used them? (got link from George Farmers pinned lighting article)

http://www.firstlightdirect.com/products.a...=F58T8%2DACTIVA

Alternatively, can anyone recommend an alternative to lifeglo. I need T8 60" tubes and I'm finding in quite hard to find any over 48" at the moment.

thanks

Stu

I read on another discussion that the arcadia original wasn't particular good http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...95622&st=16

'Arcadia reviews on many sites that stated about the Original Tropical Lamp 'This is Arcadias budget entry lamp' and a lot of people didn't buy it and rightly so as it is rank'
(sorry if I've quoted out of context)

The Arcadia freshwater tubes are £20 each which is quite a bit more than the alternatives I've mentioned.

just been thinking about this.

As I'm ugrading my lights (planning on 2x5', 58w over 6' tank) and 58w T8 tubes seem harder to find than other lengths, is there any other alternative I could go down without spending silly money. At the moment I can get 2 58w ballasts for £35 plus cost of tubes (£12 from my original link).

Alternative of a double t5 54w gives similar output but greater cost (£60 ballast plus tubes). These are just short of 4' long so I'd offset them over the tank to give full coverage. I could continue to use my t8 reflectors (i think).

Another alternative would be the interpet t5 double compact 55w (or 34W) for around £35 plus tubes, but these are shorter still (21"/16") and I certainly couldn't use my t8 reflectors. Realistically I'd need 2 doubles - too expensive.

Does anyone have any suggestions/workable solutions that I can look into?

The Arcadia Original Tropical is a pinkish hue andis a budget light which says enhances plant growth on the packaging but then all lights enhance plant growth.

The Freshwater is the daylight version and is quite good. I use one as my low lighting (In the signature picture)

Andy really hates those Original Tropical lamps

I like them though, and use two of the OT and two Freshwater lamps and find them good.
YMMV
