I'm just interested in seeing one, i have never seen one in my 12 years+ of keeping fish.

I have kept loads of Firemouths over the years also, but they seem to grow so slow, the biggest i have had is 4.5" total length.

I wanna see a 7" fat Firemouth.

Dont think you will mate. that size is usually obtained in the wild...
mine was approx 4.5inches...you can see in my link
When i was in colombia there was some in the local aqaurium, which looked about 5inches..

I think they are probably the slowest growing non line bred Cichlids there is, i had 2 of them about 3 years ago, had them for 1 year and they barely grew an inch, wheras the Severum that was with them grew from 2" to 8.5" in the same time span.

Ok how about Elliotis? these seem to be common on these boards (despite i have never seen one in real life ever and would love to keep one) any fully grown Elliotis?

I think when people say to people with smaller tanks, you can't have a Firemouth because they max out at 7" (not including tail apparently making it a near 9" fish!) need to look at average size.

I challenge anyone to show me a Firemouth over 5" total length (including tail)

Here is my Ellioti :) He's around 5" - 6"

There's a pair in my LFS display tank at about 5" i'd say, biggest i've seen - they look smaller as the tank is HUGE!
I dont think they're for sale though - they're the managers & he needed to re-home so why not make urself a tank at work uh? lol.
My old green sev is in there too :D

Biggest i've seen anyway, mine is tiny.

I had a firemouth and he grew steadily from about 2" - 3" in about 4 months. He was very nice, but he didn't get on with my Ellioti due to them being from the same family. Really miss him to be honest, he was a real character. I have been after a breeding pair for a while, but to no avail. :( Would also love a pair of Thorichthys Aureus but they're like rocking horse poo

Yeh but was it 7" body length not including the tail? it doesn't look anywhere near 7" in that picture but could be the angle.
