Honeythorn
Sugar coating and nicely nicely? I don't think so
Has anyone else ever been on holiday, spotted an LFS or pet store that sells fish and been really impressed? Wanting to stuff the entire stock into your suitcase and leave your clothes behind?
Because that's just happened to me.
I'm not kidding, I've just come back from Fredericia in Denmark, and passed a pet store with tanks in the window. Naturally I went in to see what fish were sold.
The guy who owns it seems to really like his Cichlids, and had a few different sorts. Not being a keeper of Cichlids I could only identify Yellow Labs, Oscars and UN - dyed Parrot fish ( still a cichlid of some sort yes? )
They also had the usual selection of barbs, rasboros, tetras, guppies ect. Also bettas both male and female ( VT's )
But what really impressed me was the condition of the tanks and fish. SPOTLESS. Absolutly spanking tanks and healthy fish, not a dead body in sight, all the bettas were great, and the tanks weren't massively overstocked.
They had a small tank full of extremely healthy looking plants ( all of which I wanted to take home )
I watched him serve a couple , and noticed something I haven't seen here in the UK. Instead of dunking a bag in the tank to fill it and netting the fish into the bag, he had a sort of clear plastic ub which hangs onto a lip on the front of all the tanks. He fills that, and nets the fish into it before removing the tub and taking it to a bagging station.
They had a small but really nice range of tanks too, and one which, were I able, would havebrought back with me as it was shallow and long, perfect for a betta ( though marketed for small turtles ) .
I wondered if anyone else has seen great stores while on holiday, it would be interesting to read others experiences...
