I always have hard dot algae all over my tank which i find really hard to remove. I have tried an algae scraper, a razor and a toothbrush. Neither of those work. I find the only way to scrape it off which takes forever is to use my fingernail.
What causes this algae? Is there another way to remove it?

Is it sort of a load of tiny green spots on the glass? I had the same thing in my 2ft, no idea what casues it though. I managed to scrape it all off, it just takes time and effort (I used a plastic triangle thingy, still took a lot of work).

spot algea is a sign of good water quality, it will not grown in polluted water or water with high NO3.
so take it as a sign that you are doing well. :)

Hi,

I had troubles with this too in both my tanks - easiest thing I found to scrape it off with was an old credit card - still get a bit of it, but nothing like it used to be (also slightly changed my lighting periods at the same time, so assume this may have helped in reducing it, but don't really know).

hi, i had the same problem. i was told to increase my live plants ...i'm not sure if this is just a coincidence but it did seem to reduce the algae by quite a bit
