Today has been what I would consider the hardest day for me being in this hobby.
About three days ago I noticed some white patches on one of my Neon Tetra. I removed him roughly 12 hours after I first noticed it (10pm at night)
Added him to a cycled QT tank the next morning. I thought all was well, until I noticed another Neon with a black spot on his head.
I posted about it, and got the dreaded diagnosis of Neon Tetra Disease (NTD)
If you are not aware, this disease is almost impossible to cure. And two days ago, I noticed it had spread further. Until finally yesterday where all 13 fish had lost colour.
I contacted the Animates (chain store) manager, and mentioned after buying a few neons from him I had noticed the colour did not come back after them being added to the tank.
He rang me last night, and was very informative and understanding. He offered to replace all 15 original fish for me, as well as a $10 voucher for the store. Which made me feel a bit better about the situation, as I knew what had to come next.
So today, I had to net all my remaining neons...which was hard enough. Then I euthanized all of them one by one. I get it that it's pain free for the fish, but not for the owner
I'm upset about it, but they're in a better place, with no suffering. RIP little guys <3
