Well it seems this new year is off to a brilliant start for me, id had barely 4 hours sleap before our son woke me up to tell me that the water in the big tank was the colour of milk and that the fish were all gasping at the surface, i had had some problems last night with one of the fish regurgitating its last meal and had done a large water change and netted the regurgitated food out but it seems that was just the first fish to vomit and over night every other fish had done the same so now the tank looked and smelt like rotting fish soup.
As if that wasnt enough once i had netted out the bits of food and set the tank draining for a huge water change i switched the lights on my brackish tank only to see that the water level in the tank had dropped several inches and that the water in there was cloudy and full of regurgitated food too, the Takifugu occelatus (difficult to keep puffer) that had been doing so well had died and that the external filter had decided to malfunction and had flooded about 10 gallons of water onto the floor behind the tank before its syphon broke.
My only guess as to the cause is that the mussels which are different to the ones i usually use since a friend i asked to pick some fish food while he was in town bought green lipped mussels instead of chilean by accident didnt agree with the fishes stomachs and made them all sick, that and that Fluval filters really are the worst crap ever made, ive only owned two and both have broken down on me and ended up smashed to pieces in the garden, god help them if i ever meet anyone who works for fluval because they are likely to be fed bits of their own filters through a straw.
If this is a sign of things to come this year its very likely youll see all my fish (well the ones i havent managed to kill) and tanks in the for sale section and ill take up something less stressfull like sky diving as a hobby.
