Hello folks whats the biggest hang on filter which can be bought. My partner is moaning about all the pipes on my tank.

cheers mick

I would check out the largest of the Aquaclear series. I'm not sure if that will be big enough for you but those get recommended a lot here on the forum because they are opena and flexible about receiving all types of media. I have one that's been working many years now, so I think they are reliable too.

Before I did that though I guess it's obvious to be exploring all possibilities for covering up the undertank area. External Cannister filters are really preferable to HOBs in a number of ways, including less water noise. Sometimes decorative plastic boxes can be found in housewares sections that can have holes or sections cut out of the back of them and in the right size they could hide everything being seen below the tank.

~~waterdrop~~

marineland emperor 400 is the biggest i have ever seen and does an amazing job. as long is your tank is under 80 gals your fine.

I'd go with an Aqua clear 110. I have a pair of AC70's on a 72 gallon oscar tank, I've been trying to get them to break down for years & they won't. AC's have a larger media capacity than the Marineland products, and a better motor & pump.

What you might want to try, just to save money, is to switch out the bright green Eheim hoses for black, with a darker background. This would be cheaper, and those canisters are one of the best filters on the market.

IME aquaclears are worse than using pure nitrites as a filter because atleast it will keep the tank cleaner.

Not sure I understand that sentence A24V! (?) WD

That makes two of us. I was running all AC's in the growout & adult tanks of my breeding setup, until I was past 20 tanks & the electrical cord mayhem was becoming a hazard. Nearly everything in the fishroom is air powered now, the oscar is one of two tanks that reside in the family room.

In the past I have put filters up against filters, torture testing is sort of a side thing I do with filters, test the durability & functionality. I'll always try something new, just to see how it works. If it doesn't work the way I like it to, it goes in an auction or just gets given away.

AC beats Marineland in durability and flexability. Having broken an impeller shaft on an Eheim 2026 the AC's are more durable, but need more maintenance. Eheim's Classic & Pro line still beat anything I have come across, short of a large sump with an industrial rated pump.

im saying there will be less nitrite in your tank if you put a pure bottle of nitrite in your tank than an aquaclear IME lol
