don't buy an aquarium starter kit. You'll most likely end up replacing everything but the tank itself

this isnt always true...some small starter kits, yes i could understand...especialy the 10 gallon kits from walmart that are 34 dollars...CRAP!(i didnt buy one but friends have). i bought an aqueon 36 gallon starter kit and an aqueon 55 gallon starter kit (doubled up on filtration of course) but the filter on my 36 gallon that it came with is pry one of the best hob filters ive used. its been a year and is still pushing water like new.
