Hammer Coral

Depends, there are two types of hammer coral. E. ancora, and E parancora. E. parancora grows a lot like a tree. As it grows its mouths split in two and grow away from each other like branches of a tree. It can/will also bud off tiny little copies of itself no bigger than the head of a pen usually near the base of its flesh. These little mini heads will only grow if snapped/cut off the colony.

E. ancora grows in a "wall" type pattern and expands from end to end. It does not split like E. parancora. It does however also grow those little mini heads at the base of its flesh and just like its cousin, if they're snapped off they will grow into new copies of the adult colony

thanks ski. I have E.parancora.

Cool, those are generally more-hardy

One thing to be aware of. Sometimes when the heads split, the coral looks "sick" for a couple days as it splits its mouth in two. This is normal, so don't worry if you see it shrinking its tentacles right around when the mouth splits in two :)
