Hair Algae X Coraline?

got Bo`s tank about 4-5 months ago i think it was, and it had previously been used as a marine setup, for the past few weeks i have been battling ( quite literally!!) long green hairy algae that is turning purple ( like coraline) in places.. its using the same filter, tho i replaced and swapped around all of the media (F405) and i scrubbed the entire thing within an inch of its life
getting a bit peeved as it looks so nasty i cant even bring myself to post a pic of it.. i clean it one evening, next there it is......and FYI yes i do leave the lights on a lot longer than i should...usually over night, most nights

im quite tempted to take Bo out and strip the tank.. but he gets too stressed during moves.. so not really an option he dosent seem to mind it at all,

any ideas?

I had similar problems with my coldwater tank, it drove me nuts, I stripped the tank out completely but it still came back!, I have changed my filter to one of those with a uv light in and it seems to be keeping it at bay.

driving me nuts is an understatement.. so if i can find time this evening i`ll strip the tank down..could probably do with a good clean anyway ( yippee

if that dosent do the trick then i`ll get a uv unit.. anything has to be worth a try

i seriously dont think it was just going to go tho..took some scrubbing to get all of it off, have added a large power head now see if that will help
and of course i`ll turn the lights of at bedtime

fingers crossed it works for you, twice I stripped out my coldwater tank I was running the juwel internal filter and an external filter still the ruddy stuff came back, even with leaving the tank without light for 3 days and reducing the food. Evil stuff it is.
