Afternoon!

Those that have read my newbie thread will know im about to start a fishless cycle for the first time, and have never set up a tank from scratch. Im gonna nip up to my LFS in a bit, and have seen on the net they have (amongst others) the above test kit.

Has anyone used this before, and is it overkill for a 70gl Tropical tank? Its £60, and does everything, even things i haven't read up on yet. Am i better going for a cheaper option?

Kit comprises of tests for;

ammonia 1,2 &3
calcium 1,2 & 3
nitrate 1,2, & 3
phosphate 1,2 & 3
carbonate hardness
general hardness
nitrite 1 & 2
pH
iron

Obviously im going to need the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and PH straight from the start, but when am i likely to need the others? Would it be worth buying this straight out so i have the other bits for future use, or am i better off going for smaller an API kit, or something similar?

Cheers,

Ben

The others you wont need, buy saliferts instead, much more accurate and reliable than both the API and nutragin kits, and all of the ones you require (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH) can be bought for about £25 in total.

I use this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NUTRAFIN-MINI-MASTER-AQUARIUM-FISH-TANK-WATER-TEST-KIT-/180422051023?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item2a01fe04cf

You will not need that master kit, its just a bit of a waste, but as said Salifert is more accurate, not that Ive had any problems with the above

Cheers guys, ordering a Nutrafin min master kit.

Turns out my lfs its pretty poor. Everything is twice the price of the internet, half the fish are labeled wrong (and i what i know can be written on a fag packet!) and there really isnt a lot there.

What i did find highly amusing, was stock obviously purchased from other stores, and resold at a higher price. You would think they would remove the previous shops price labels?? It wasnt even local!

Heading to Maidenhead Aquatics in Thatcham tomorrow, as that's closest the next decent "reputable shop".... Wish me luck!
