Remember the boys I found all in a bowl at walmart a few days ago? And I had only one survivor. Well I went back into that walmart today, with the hope that maybe, just maybe, after I reemed them out last time that things would be better. Guess what, they weren't... most of the bettas were dead, like 80% of them, the ones who weren't were almost there, and they had at least 30-40 bettas  so I found 2 of them in a vase together tearing eachother to shreds, I went off! Completely, the poor employee I ran into first probably was afraid of me actually killing him, lol. I demanded to see a manager, told her that not only are the conditions the fish are kept in apalling but the fact that all of these fish are dying and nobodys doing anything about it, is just plain cruel   I demaded the fish for free (something I rarely ever do) and told them I had every intension of contacting the store manager and the head of the corporation. And I ended up walking out of the store with the 2 males that were in the vase, and boy whos seems realitivly heathly except that he has an obvious tail chewing issue. Well I fully intend on following up and keeping an eye on that walmart, and contacting everyone I can until they straighten up their department  I have room left for 2 more males. Here are some pics, I don't have any of the tail chewer (named Auron) will get some later. Here are the 2 that were in the vase

And my new 10 gallon that I just got and divided yesterday... that is already filled, lol. Don't mind the blue/green water, its meds for the new guys.

God that is so terrible! I hope you do complain complain complain until something is done.
So glad that you got those 2 that were together though. Whoever did that (probably bored employees) needs to be smacked a few dozen times!

As for the tail chewer... how do you stop them from doing that?
I've read that some bettas will do it to themselves, but just curious how you get them to stop (just in case I run into the problem in the future heh)

It all depends on what the problem of the individual fish is, some do it because they're bored, or its a nervous habit, sometimes its just a weird instinctive thing, I give tail chewers lots of cover and things to swim in and out of. You really need to watch them and see what triggers it, for example some chew when they see another male because they get nervous, others chew if they're alone and can't see another fish. Does that make sense?

well done you... they visually panic when I go in my local aquatic shop down the road...I hardly ever buy just look...In one of your pics it looks as if you have had to raid your piggy bank..... :good:

what kind of meds do you use for your fishies? i need to stock up on some that will keep my fish extra healthy

I'm glad you copmplained, hopefully they will do something about it.
Cute boys you got there, hope they get better. :good:

They look identical to the VT's we have! Luckily they dont look too bad for having been in the same vase. Good on you

Does Auron have finrot as well? or ammonia burn? With how black the edges of his tail look... :(

Those poor bettas. I'm glad you are keeping your eyes pealed for them... stupid retards working at that walmart need their butts kicked. It hasn't even been a week since the last time you went in there and they had a problem!

Believe it or not, the black edging is his coloration, he actually has awsome coloration, to bad he insists on eating his tail, I caught him munching today.

Wow, that's good to hear that it is his coloration!! :hyper: I bet he's stunning in real life then! Black bettas are always super pretty!

Hope he stops chewing soon!
