Gutter Filters

can someone fully explain gutter filteres to me? or point me in the direction of a good explaination?
are they any good?

IMO- they sound like a real pain in the rear. If your power goes out your filter media will be left high and dry. I feel a wet/dry would be easier, if you want something similar.

It looks to me like the basic premise of the in-hood filters that some tank makers have started using. As Mikaila said, they look vulnerable to a dry out in case of pump or power problems.
