Out There.....waaaaay out there.....
So, my sister gave me some of her guppies that she didnt wish to add into her gene pool and among them were these two boys. They were uncolored when I got them but over the past few weeks, they've colored up beautifully and I'm intrigued by their pigment. One is iridescent blue and the other is iridescent pinky-purple. No other body patterning. I seem to recall reading (when I was researching genetics and color breeding) that the iridescence is inherited in differing levels and has to do with UV light reflection. These seem to be pure iridescent scales with no other pigment. I was just wondering if anyone has seen any like them, if they are a strain or type, if its recessive (probably), and any idea what sort of genetic mix they could have (difficult to guess, I know). I think I'd be interested in breeding more because they literally glow in my tank. And no, I cant ask my sister - she didnt even know she'd included them and is waiting for me to post pix so she can see if she wants 'em back or not LOL!!
Anyway, here they are:
(oh and sorry for bad pic quality - its an iPhone camera and the little sods would not stay still!!! took ages and alotta swearing just to get these!!!)

So what do you think? Anything special? Worth breeding?

Very nice, I have some pink boys at home still and they are gradually getting a couple of black spots on their sides. If you do go for breeding them you might get the best continued colour from females from the same lines, but I have not seen any pink females only blue/ black, red/ black and green/black.

Yeah, I know....but what females of yours did these come from??? could try breeding them back to their mother, if you knew which one she was....

the "blue' one is getting more green-ish on his sides, btw.....and I have a green male with red fins and tail you might like too
