Hello all, my guppy is swimming around with a wobble. Similar to how a penguin waddles side to side, this is what he looks like. I don't know what to make of it but expect it is bad.

I had my filter break while cleaning it and after all the ruckus of me fiddling with it trying to see what's wrong I noticed this. I am worried maybe I bumped him with something because he does like to come inspect anything in the tank, but it could be coincidence.

I also just tried feeding them blood worms for the first time. I was worried it was swim bladder related to constipation so I fed him a pea but he poo'd that out fine.

Other than the wobble he seems okay, though he does struggle against the filter more. Still eating, plays with the other guppy and is very active. I don't know what to do. Anyone know what could be wrong?

it does sound like a swim bladder problem. Maybe best to research swim bladder issues, it's causes and the various treatments recommmended :)

If this is a sudden change than possibly swim bladder.

How old is your fish? Sometimes with old age a fish can take up a different position and wiggliness.

If it's an old fish it is probably down to just age. I have had numerous guppies do this to me, they will cope for a while, this can be a few weeks up to a few months. It usually shows the fish coming of age. Is the spine bent at all or is it just a wobble? As sometimes this can be an indicator of high nitrate levels, as I know with fry if I lapsed on my water changes for a long period of time bent spines would start to develop. As said this is all down to my own experience, so if he general seems healthy and feeding he should be ok for a while.

Thanks for all the help guys! I did try to feed him a pea thinking it was swim bladder but I am not sure what else you can do for it. Ill look into it but if I recall you cant treat for much with shrimps in the tank an I dont have an extra tank to keep my ghost shrimps in.

I only bought him a couple months ago but I am not sure how old he was before. His spine isn't bent though. As for the water levels, I changed the water right before I noticed. I do water changes twice a week. I recently switched the water to brackish and the salinity is 1.002, idk if that could matter. He seems kind of twitchy now. Like, he jolts around a little bit.

I bought the lyretails because they were in a semi-agressive tank and had the pointy part of their pretty tails eaten off so I am glad he's lasted this long after that I suppose :(
