Hello
I have one male guppy whos with me for the last two weeks.
hes very colorful and lovely.
lately it seems his back is turning from blue to white.

What does it mean?
Does he lose his scale? Is it normal?
thank you. :)

What are your water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, temp.)? How long has your tank been set up?

im not sure about the stats
temp around 27C
and the aquarium is 4 weeks old.

4 guppies were brought last week as 'starters', and they all seem happy and vivid.

It is time to do a large water change. Try to match temperatures and use a dechlorinator for the new water. With a new tank that is uncycled and had fish for a week, you will need to change at least 50% of the water. Your fish are probably suffering from high levels of ammonia but without a test kit we don't know. Until your fish start to look better, I would do a 30% water change every day unless you get a test kit and it tells you that ammonia and nitrites are OK.

are you sure that white is not a actually a fungas i have had a couple of fish which i have bought and a few days later they have created what seems like a white tail but if you look very closely you will be able to see that it sticks above there vody slightly. try an anti-fungas treatment, i have used methylene blue which treats most fungas and bacterial infections.

Naomi, a 4 week old tank that has had fish in it for a week for 'starters' is uncycled and has high ammonia. There may be other factors at work here as you suggest, but until we get those fish into decent water by using a few water changes we won't know whether it might be just the water or something more. My hope is that it is only the water that is causing the fish its distress as we are getting that under control.

I'm having a very similar problem, definately looks like scale loss as apposed to a fungus, female guppy here tho loose it around her middle, started as a patch on one side but spread over a little more, shes also swimming oddly like using her intire body in a kind of snake like wriggle! 0ammonia 0 nitrite and low reading on nitrate, ph of around 7 and 26*c tank temp.

Sorry to burst into your thread halupo, just thought it was a very similar topic and i'd add to it here instead of creating a whole new one :)!
