any way 1 of my other guppies has now got a red line appeared on belly , all fish appear healthy and eating properly
water is good with ammonia and nitrite both 0
My guppies are all over a year old could this just be old age ? dont think it is internal bacterial as poo is ok not white and stringy
not sure what the problem is

How many gallons or litres is the tank please?
How many fish and which type?
What the brand name of the test kit you are using?
What do you feed your fish?

Black patches can be due to injury, fighting, ammonia burns that are healing, cancer.

Does the fish eyes look like they swollen, or sticking out?
Is the iris of the eye black?
Also check the scales to see if there also sticking out?
The red line does it look like bleeding beneath the skin?
Red veining, red streaking?
Does the fish have a curved spine?
Check the anus of the fish also to see if it looks enlarged, or red and inflamed.

Have you ever kept any neon tetra's in your tank?
Loss of appetite
Progressive thinness
Sluggish movement
Folded fins
Eye protrusion
Dark coloration and granular appearance of the cornea (this is the first sign in Angelfish).
Skeletal deformity
Hanging at the surface
Skin defects, including blood spots and open wounds that may ulcerate

Just wondering if you could manage to post a picture of the red line on your guppy. I've had a mysterious red line on two guppies now... the first I have in a picture of on a post called "Red Line"... the second I didn't take a picture of but the line appeared after death.

Am interested to follow your post to see if yours is anything similar and you figure out the cause.

You also had another thread running in the emergency section of the forum.

If you don't mind can you list all the symptoms your fish have been showing over the last month or so. Including other symptoms from your previous thread.
To get a better understanding of what's going on.

Hi the other thread was due to 1 of my keyholes had lost a scale just above the mouth due to keyholes having squabble over food and after a couple of days fungus started to form in which I put interpet fungus treatment in and it cleared up straight away , also 1 of my guppies started to flash and you said my correct dose my been to strong for my guppy so water change to half dose which I did and the flashing stopped .
1 guppys also I put in thread had this red line in underbelly had just started to appear , this is the same guppy , but now as by this thread the red line has now gone dark same as his face and mouth area , hope this helps
Praire sunflower I saw the pic of your guppy and the line is extactly the same which is now starting to appear on 2 more of my guppys
hope this helps

Has your tank recently had an ammonia reading?

Black patches can also be a symptom of fish TB, also curved spine is a symptom.

I think I would add a internal bacteria med to your tank.
If any more symptoms please get back to the board.
As a precaution I would wear latex gloves if you have cuts and wounds on your hands.
Wash hands after you finished with tank. Bacterial soap.

Here some info on black patches for you.

Black patches, smudges, smears, spots or markings that suddenly appear and are not natural colorings.

Cause:

These markings are the result of skin cell damage. Black markings often appear in areas where the skin has been damaged by ammonia burns, bacterial infections, parasitic infestations, and injuries. These markings are often seen on fish just after a new tank has completed cycling, due to the high ammonia levels. These marks are also common in African Cichlids, especially around the mouth. These are scabs that have come from digging in the gravel or from fighting.

Treatment:

No treatment is necessary. Much like scabs, the blackened areas are a sign that the healing process has already begun. Keep water in top condition and the areas will gradually fade in less than a couple of weeks.

Hi wilder
Thankyou for your help, there have been no ammonia readings for a long time and water is good as my cories are always spawning , the only thing I can think of is the TB as I thought might be wrong if a bacterial infection does there poo change ? as lost 2 rainbow fish last year due to this as there poo went long white and stringy then lost there appetite

How about velvet disease. Unlike most articles suggest, velvet is not always gold/brown in colour and

Damage from velvet may appear as dull or dark patches or fine yellow or rusty coloured film on skin.

Other symptoms:

Fish scratches against hard objects
Fish is lethargic
Loss of appetite and weight loss
Rapid, laboured breathing
Fins clamped against body
Mucus production increases
In advanced stages skin peels off

Hi snazy not sure about that as no other syptoms apart from top of head and nose going dark also what was a red line on belly now gone dark and bent spine forming , slight wobbling when swimming but is eating and poo is good and still moving about with other guppies most of time , will keep an eye out for velvet thoe

If the spine bending it might be best to end the fish suffering. Or isolate the fish with the bent spines.
Spine can bend in old age. Just abit worried about the black patches as that can also be a sign of fish TB.

Did you use an internal wormer?

Praire sunflower I saw the pic of your guppy and the line is extactly the same which is now starting to appear on 2 more of my guppys
hope this helps

Will watch your thread to see if anyone gets to the bottom of it. I am treating my remaining fish with Anti Internal Bacteria meds in hopes thats it and prevents any of mine who may have it and have no visible symptoms.

Mine with red lines were 1 month apart.

Hope you find a solution for your problems.

Hi I have not used an internal bacteria med as none of my fish are showing signs of this as poo and eating is normal but starting to feel this can not hurt, but if this is tb and there is no cure for it and dont want to risk upsetting good bacteria , I do not have a quaritine tank now .
My carbon filters are only 2 weeks old can I take them out , then reuse once med has been in for a week or is it best to throw away and use fresh after as have 2 carbons in tank and change them once a month but at 2 week intervals but had to put 2 new ones in same time due to last fungus med , Is interpet internal bacteria any good ?
My guppy is still happy wobbling around the tank with the other 4 , feel maybe killing him might be a little bit early as feel if I do him and 2 more are showing signs of the red line coming then maybe best to do all 5 which will break my heart to do :-(
sorry for the war and peace ramble
