Hi,

My guppy is pregnant, and I would like to know when the guppy fry are able to be sold to a pet store.

The only person who can really answer that is your local fish store where u plan on taking them in, find out off them what size they prefer to take them in and how much you will get for them etc.

The shops near me prefer them at a good size (4-5 months old) and i get around 50p per guppy.

Welcome to the forum Parrotlover.
As LM said, the LFS will determine when the fish are big enough but for many of the ones who will accept fish, the minimum size is about half or a bit more of the mature adult size. At that size they will be showing their colors fairly well and will be easy for them to pass along to the next owner. If you want to get something for your guppies, you have a far better chance at a club auction with near adult fish than at a LFS.

Thanks for the replies.

I do not want to make any money off of my guppy fry, as fish aren't really popular around my area.

The pet store has a baby guppy tank and I did see some that were extremely tiny. I know the owners of the store and I know for a fact that all of the guppies are seperated(Male, female) from birth, so I know they aren't breeding them at the store.

I was talking to an employee at the store, and they can take the fry, I will get nothing for them(and I don't want anything for them) and that employee didn't know the age the guppies would need to be.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Thats impossible, can take anywhere from 1 month to 3 months (even more sometimes, especially in swordtails) for the males gonopodium to develop.

Well, they've been seperated as soon as they can be is what they said, I had assumed that was birth, and I didn't know you couldn't tell until 3 months. MY mistake, sorry.

I have 3 females ATM and they are pregnant, don't know when they are due as I got them each from different stores.

How long does it take approximately for a guppy to give birth?

The time from when they start carrying fry to when they drop them is about 4 weeks but varies a bit with temperature. Once they start to drop the fry they are usually done in a couple of hours or so.
