Guppy Fry Question

Currently have 2 guppy fry at 3 weeks old who are doing very well. From week 1 however, I noticed they had black splodges developing on their tails. I thought colour began to appear after around 6 weeks? Am I wrong?

You are quite right. There is no way to guess what the final colors will be from a guppy the first week or two. By 4 or 5 weeks you will start to see hints of their final color and by 3 months you will have a fair idea of what it will be. I find that some of my endlers have a spot of dark color on them when first born but I can never spot what they will look like until several weeks have gone by.

mine are 5 1/2 weeks and almost all of them have a black splotch on the tail...but some of my males are looking like yellow snakeskins

When my fry are born they usually have some kind of splotch on them. It isnt much, but it takes into effect more when they grow up to about 5 weeks.
