hi all, im not sure wot happened, my guppy girlie looked 9 months pregnant 4 ages n ages (abt 6 to 8 weeks) has appearently given birth (while i was away) only all the fryy seem 2 be missing!!!

i didnt think that the gouramis wud eat them all if i had just 2 gouramis and the fry with loadsa floating plants in the hospital tank.

cud they have eaten them ?

(i realise i sound stupid 4 hoping that they wudnt, but cus their on the mend frm being ill, an are gettin regular feeds i thought that they wud be fine ?)

will fry survive in a tank on their own ? as i have 2 more pregnant guppies that look ready 2 pop soon. an im hopin that they can go in 2 "hospital tank" on their own 2 give birth (the gouramis will be goin in the main tank after a checkup witht he pet store)

Look like the gouramis and/or the mother add a snack... Keep the pregnant female alone with lots of plant (not just on top) for the fry to hide. My females always try to eat there fry sooness the come out of them.. Good luck for your next batch.

It could be either one. My Gourami's love live food and my mothers will tend to eat the fry more if other fish are around. She would rather kill them herself then have them eaten by something else.

Also, I do not know what kind of filter you have but sometimes they get sucked up in the filter. I would check there. If not wait 4 weeks and more fry wil come. Take her out and put her by herself at 3 weeks.

Good Luck.

Make sure you check in all the plants. Sometimes you miss the fry because they are so small and translucent. All you can see is the eyes! I didn't even notice that my guppy gave birth until I saw a little bit of movement at the edge of one of my plants. And those fry are in with my Gold Gourami who is getting to be pretty big (about 3 or 4 inchs).
