iv had this particular guppy for a year now, raised him from a lil fry myself, the only surviver of his spawn. he's always been very small, i was inexperianced when i was raising him and his siblings, didn't feed him enogh i guess and he got stunted. today i think its caught up with him. iv noticed in teh last couple of week that he has looked vey bloated and over weight. i was thinking constipation and that he would eventually pass some poo and he'll be all better. well today i noticed that some of what looks like his guts are poping out of his side. he's acting very normal liek nothings happend, even eating, but i dout he will survive liek this. do you guys think he is just bursting fomr teh lack of body growth to support his insides, or is there some kind of disease doing this?

Sorry nothing to be done for the poor thing, heard of it before in livebearers, might be best to keep an eye on him to make sure he's not in pain, maybe his organs got to big and are rupturing sorry.

Sorry, there's not much that can be done :-(.... Do you have a pic? There is a slim chance that it might not be his internals exploding, but something else. Again, this is very slim. How long is he? Is he eating well? If possible, put him into a quarintine tank, and give him a little salt and MelaFix, and even more, keep him happy until the end :byebye:. I'm sure he had a great life with you, and couldn't have been a happier guppy. It's hard when bad things happen to your beloved fish, I've lost what seems like too many over the years. The best of luck!

Sorry to hear about your Impending Loss :-(
I've heard of this a few times before, Although by God's Grace have never Experenced it myself.
I know there is not much Chance for it's Survival.
I know it's Hard to Lose one that you've raised from a Fry, I know this Personally, As I'm sure we all have...
If he seems Happy and semi pain free, and not Suffering, Then Keep him as comfortable as possiable until the end.

But if he seems to be Suffering To Much, if you can do it you can Put the little fellow to Sleep, By putting him in a Small Dish with a lid on it, and Sticking him in your frezzer for approx 15 mins the Temp will rapidly drop, Sending him into Shock, Causing a Quick and realitivly Painless Death.
As compared to Splitting Open.

But that Choice is Yours and Yours Alone...

Good Luck :-(

I hope you don't have to euthanize your little pal, but in case you do -
I've done some research and heard (I had to euthanize a fish recently) that death by freezing is not at all a pleasant way to go. I dropped my little neon into a container of vodka - death was immediate and from what I could tell - painless.

Best of luck to you and your fishy friend.

Alcohol and freezing arent humane ways to euthanize a fish. IMO there are ttwo acceptable methods.

1, clove oil. It is available at most health food stores. You put the fish in a cup or dish of tank water and then add a drop of clove oil in. The fish will 'pass out' and is no longer in pain. Then, continue to add a couple more drops until it is gone. Leave the fish in the solution for an hour to prevent hypoxia (recovery of the brain.)

2, decapitation. This is not for the weak. You wrap the fish in a cloth that has been dipped in tank water, so you only expose the head. Then, using a scalpel or other sharp object, and quickly remove the head from the body in one motion. The body may flop but this is just a nerve reaction. The fish does not feel a thing. you should then destroy the brain to prevent hypoxia using a sharp implement.

Some people reccommend whacking the fish, but a lot can go wrong if it is not done right, resulting in the fish having to suffer.

I have never done any of these methods, this is the advice of other advanced aquarists, and I take their word for it. chances are it will die on its own and there is no need to play God.

What it sounds like, is the fish's body was stunted, but it's insides kept growing.

Thanks for the One Up on the Clove Oil, I never heard of this form but Will Keep it in Mind.
as it does sound more Humane...

I am not trying to Play God in ANYWAY Shape or Form.
I am just trying to Be Merciful to a Suffering animal that I Care About.
Yes I realize there is differing Opinions on this Subject, and I respect that.
To each His Own. So I won't Go any further on this Subject Matter.

But to Suffice it to Say If I was GOD {WHICH I AM NOT}{AND I DON'T CLAIM TO BE}
There would be a Whole Lotta People Hurtin ... : :D

No problem. I wasnt accusing you of playing God, lol. Just saying, that is the term i use whenever I or someone else chooses to put an animal to sleep. But in actuality a lot of times it needs to be done.

Keep us updated.

Sorry If I took it WRONG.
Apology Accepted.
Yes do Keep us Posted, As to your Progress.

he's looking pretty good, eats well, doesn'y appear to be burdened at all, but im afraid it will become infected. he also seems to be getting even larger, i have reason to beleive he has some kind of blockage in him thats causeing him to back up.

Glad to hear he's doing "SOME" Better.
As for the possibility of him becoming infected, You could put hum on a Coarse of a "BROAD" Spectrum Anti Biotic Like Tetracycline, Just follow the Instructions that come on the Package.

You say You believe that he has Some Sort of "BLOCKAGE"?
Have you Seen Him Pass any Solids at all?
Or has he passed any kind of Solids that Look Like they Look Like, I call them Sausage Casings,
I know that sounds kind of funny, But I Mean, is he passing anything that looks like Solids mixed in with Gas Bubbles Trapped in what looks like a Sausage Casing?
If this is the Case then he's Constipated and the Solution is basically Simple.
All Natural if he'll eat it.

Get him a can of Spinach the Cheap type will do from your Local Store, Unless he Thinks he's to GOOD for the Generic Stuff, and just has to have the "BEST BRAND NAME STUFF".
Hey it sounds "STUPID" but I've had all sorts of Pets Like This. :X

Feed him a little bit at the NEXT Few Feedings an this {SHOULD} Clear Up the Situation, "So To Speak"...
Now if You don't know for Sure if he's Constipated it's Still Worth a Shot.
But if he's Swallowed Something Else he Shouldn't Have, Like a Small peace of GRAVEL, or Carbon that may have Gotten Out of Your Filter, or Some type of Floss...
Then their Maybe Nothing We Can do for Him.
But in any event if you can get him to Eat a Little Bit of that Spinach it May "HELP" to Loosen him up enough to Help "WASH" whatever it is Out of Him...

Good Luck....
And "PLEASE" Keep Us Posted...
I Pray this Helps You and Your little Fellow....

no all v gotten from him are lil white strings, he is even more bloate dtoday and is not eating. appears ill now and his siblings seem intent on eating him alive  i dont know if iv ever told u guys but my male guppys are canibals, if they see a sick fish, they will attack and kill it. (yes i do feed them...alot)

while id really like to see this lil guy recover, i think that teh extent of his injuries are just too much to com back from, its literally his whole side thats split open, nd the other side appears to be going the same direction :/ i may move him to teh female tank so he doesn't get eat by his brothers, but i dont expect him to make it throgh teh night.

:-( Sorry to hear that the Little Guy has taken, What Sounds like a Very Bad turn for the Worse.
I know what it's like to beat Your Head in trying to HELP a pet you Love SO Much, and then finally come to realize "THAT IT'S" more then likely Hopeless.
Which Sad to say Sounds Like This in this Case.

I recently Lost a Pet Budgie and 2 Oscars in the Span of 2 days, and it about BROKE my Spirit when it all Happened at Once like that. But THANK GOD he has Blessed Me with a Loving Wife and Boy who also Loves Animals, And plenty of Pets So all of them in their Own Ways Helped My Spirit beyond belief.

As far as them LIKING to eat another fish that is CLOSE to DEATH or Badly ILL, this is Natural, It's the way God intended it too be. A Quick Easy Meal.
Some like to call it Survival of the Fittest.
They mean no Harm but are "JUST TRYING to SURVIVE", It's just the way that they are PROGRAMED...
You could feed THEM 1 lbs of FOOD a peace and it WOULD Make No Difference.

Please let Me know if I can HELP in anyway.
And Please Keep Me POSTED!!!
MAY GOD BLESS... :(

I'm sorry to hear your little fish isnt doing well :( Don't blame yourself for not feeding him well, some fry will grow up and be big and strong, while others just dont thrive, no matter how well you feed them.... It sounds like he's had a good life with you and been very loved, and thats a wonderful thing.. I wish you and your little fishy guy the best....
And if nothing else, a peaceful passing.
