Guppy biotope

Where can you find wild guppies in Perth? This will be the tank (60 litre or bigger) after I have made the Lake Inle biotope (136 litres), but it's smaller than the previous one. It's a guppy biotope aquarium and it will be fun to make. It will happen in the future. Can a guppy biotope happen?

You don't. There used to be Xiphophorus variatus (platy) in the Bayswater Drain but I don't know where that is now. Most of the introduced fish in the waterways around Perth and the south-west are Gambusia, which are a noxious species that the federal government isn't doing anything about.

Okay. Gambusia are bad then. True wild guppies live in Venezuela, not the domesticated ones that are introduced to WA, according to Seriously Fish. They are very rare in the hobby.

Thought that wild guppies were also released in Australia. Aren't there other waterways in your area that may contain wild guppies?

We don't have many waterways in WA and most of them in the south-west are full of introduced trout that have Fish TB. The trout come from the state government trout farm and decimate the native fishes as well as any introduced species, apart from Gambusia.

Well, like more countries that have made the wrong choices in releasing invasive species in natural waters. But also on land, our country has introduced invasive species that are devastating to the original animals and floral world at the moment. In the beginning it seemed a good idea but miscalculated the reproduction of those invasive species.
