Hi all,
I have just inherited a 80 litre tank from my uncle, and was looking to setup a predominantly guppy tank.

I would like to include any other species that are found in the same area's as guppies, along with plants that are found in the area. I would like to get it as accurate biotope as possible for a realistic look.

Could someone please give me an idea, as to what other fish species i can keep (e.g. a couple of algae/botom feeders), smaller fish and anything else that i could keep.

The tank has inbuilt lights, undergravel filter and i also need to know what substrate to use.

I know it's a very broad post but i need to start getting information together to make this happen.

Cheers,

Owen

The required substrate for an undergravel filter is a gravel. The slots and such in the filter plate will allow sand and fine gravels to filter down to the area below the plate which would stop it working right. It takes a fairly thick layer of coarse gravel or a little less medium gravel to make a decent filter with one of those. I have no idea on the biotope because I usually pay no attention to biotope groupings. Guppies are native to some of the Caribbean islands and northern South America so look for plants and other small fish from that region.
