My male guppy is swimming really wierdly. It jerks around and then stops swimming, almost falls to the bottom and starts jerk around again until it gets near the top. The pattern continues and it looks like it is about to die. The guppy is pretty old I presume because I've had it for a while, and I got it at the pet store when it was full grown already. My tank is established, and he has been in the tank for quite a few months. I started observing this yesterday when he was lying still next to the thermometer. Today, I woke up and found him doing the same thing next to the glass. He won't eat, because he can't get to the food. I can tell he is excited that I put food in and starts to jerk, but then he never makes it to the food. Is there anything I can do to save him? Or should I let nature take it's course?

Isaac

Remove him from the tank, he dosn't sound good, sorry.

Sorry about your fish that definatly doesnt sound good.. I dont know if removing him is nessicary he doesnt sound sick.. I think he is just on his last hours of life.. Sorry about the fish..

Well it's definately a bummer. This is my first fish that has died on me from old age. He still looks really healthy, just the swimming that scares me. I hope it will go by, and he will live a bit longer, but if he dies, then I'm fine with it. Thanks guys.

Well looked all over for the jerking movement seen it somewhere else but can't remember, all i could find is that it's a sign of stress.

Umm..what could it possibly be stressed from? Will other fishes show it too because they aren't jerking..and they're fine. I'll just let nature take it's course, I think I've learned to get over it already.

It's still alive..I don't know what to do. Should I end it's pain or let is slowly die?

I had a fish die today who was doing the jerky swimming. No obvious sign of infection or illness, so i understand what you are going through. I think just dying and avoiding other fish can be stressful.

Honestly, i would end it, that what i did once it was clear that it was going to die. Do you have any clove oil?

No clove oil..but it's already nighttime. I don't think he will make it through the night, but if he does, I will readily end his life. I feel so bad doing it, but I can't have any chances if it could get to other fish.

How's the fish doing, don't no if it will pass to the others, as i don't really no what jerking movement means, just observe fish and do a few daily water changes on the tank, good luck.

Sorry R.I.P. I would do a few daily water changes on the tank, good luck.
