Guppies & Betta?

I was just wondering can male and female guppies go inbeside female betta splendens?

from what i have read it is hit and miss. i think it depends on how aggressive the betta is. i have heard mixed reports...some people have no problems, for others its a disaster!! do you have another tank you could move the guppies to if the betta is not compatible with them??

Depends on the betta. I've had a number of bettas over the years with vastly different personalities. Also I've had flashy female guppies that did get attacked by male betta. I've had about 4 female bettas that were highly aggressive and most recently have one that is calm, but now I don't keep guppies as they get to be a hassle multiplying like rabbits and can't find anyone to take them.

Totally agree with Moonlit and Laura. I have dealt with many female Bettas, and their behavior is very inconsistent from fish to fish. If you're going to try it you must have a backup plan.

Speaking of female bettas my Ming-Ming was dead this morning. I'm not sure what killed her. Very sad today. I have a male betta in his own small tank and debating whether I should chance him in the main tank with my other fish. None are long finned, but I've not had but one socialable male betta and don't trust them.

Females are like others say hard to judge. I had a seasoned fish keeper tell me I could keep several females together and I tried 4 females who promptly killed each other. They were a weird group and all went kamikazi ramming themselves into the corners of tank. So 2 were killed by their tankmates and 2 eventually committed suicide. Anyway will never try betta groups again.

I had guppies and a betta together once, and I had to remove the betta because the guppies were going after him. But them I realized the the guppies were spawns of satan and had to take them back to the LFS as they were raging war on my entire aquarium lol
